Swimming, hiking, fishing, boating… or simply soaking up the good life.

The Shuswap has always been a renowned aquatic recreation area, so be prepared for a lot of waterborne fun.  One of the benefits of such a big lake is that all of these activities can be done in relative harmony.

Bring your boat (parking, boat launch, and moorage available onsite) to enjoy:

• waterskiing, wakeboarding and tubing–or simply exploring the beautiful coastline with the variety of beaches, waterfalls, and rope swings all along the lake

Or bring your personal watercraft for:

• jetskiing

• kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (rentals available on-site) and canoeing (Paddle Canada Clinics available, please contact the office for more information)

If you’re up for a little fishing here, bring your hip-waders and fly rod and join the rest of the folks at the mouth of the Adams River because there’s a huge variety of fish in these waters, including:

• kokanee

• lake trout

• steelhead

• sturgeon

Oh, and of course there’s the “Shuswaggi”, the Shuswap Lake Monster!

Additionally, four species of salmon use the Shuswap’s waters for spawning. In early October, make sure you visit nearby Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park to witness the run of the Adams River sockeye salmon.

There is also plenty of hiking and nature walks to be done in the neighbouring Provincial Park and throughout the area.

For the golfers in the group, this region is a hidden gem for golf courses with several beautiful courses in the area. Shuswap Lake Estates Golf Course and Talking Rock Golf Course are just 15 minutes drive from Cottonwood. Fore!

And don’t forget about the wide variety of local farmer’s markets, festivals, arts & culture special events and so much more–all listed on the Shuswap Tourism website, this region’s go-to source for what’s going on.
